The short version: Your financial data never leaves your device. Taxgebra runs entirely in your browser. We do not store, transmit, or have access to your tax figures, income, deductions, or documents.
Who we are
Taxgebra is an Australian tax optimisation tool operated by Harish SM ("we", "us", "our"). We are based in Australia. For questions about this policy, contact us at hello@taxgebra.com.
What data we collect
We collect the minimum information needed to provide the service:
- Account information — your name and email address when you sign in with Google. This is stored in our secure database (Supabase, hosted in Sydney, Australia) solely to manage your account and subscription.
- Subscription status — whether your subscription is active or inactive. No payment details are stored by us — payments are handled entirely by Stripe.
- Basic usage logs — Vercel (our hosting provider) may log standard web server data such as IP address and browser type for security and performance purposes. These logs are retained for up to 48 hours.
What data we do NOT collect
The following data stays entirely on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:
- Your income, salary, or tax withheld figures
- Your deductions, super contributions, or investment details
- Any documents you upload (payslips, ATO statements, bank statements)
- Your tax file number (TFN)
- Your name, address, or any personal identification
- Your employer's name or any third-party information from your documents
All tax calculations run entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your financial data is stored in your browser's localStorage — on your device only — and is never sent to any server.
Document processing
When you upload PDF documents (payslips, ATO statements, bank statements), they are processed entirely within your browser using a local PDF parser. No document content is transmitted to our servers or any third party. Documents are not stored anywhere outside your device.
How we use your data
The account and subscription data we collect is used only to:
- Authenticate your identity when you sign in
- Verify that you have an active subscription before granting access to the app
- Send you subscription-related emails (receipts, renewal reminders) via Stripe
- Respond to your support requests
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party for marketing purposes.
Third-party services
- Google OAuth — used for sign-in. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Supabase — stores your account and subscription data. Hosted in Sydney (ap-southeast-2). See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
- Stripe — processes payments. We never see or store your card details. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- Vercel — hosts the app. See Vercel's Privacy Policy.
Data retention
- Account data — retained while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion request.
- Financial data — stored on your device only. Cleared when you clear your browser data or uninstall the app.
- Server logs — retained for up to 48 hours by Vercel.
Your rights
Under Australian Privacy Law (Privacy Act 1988) and applicable regulations, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@taxgebra.com.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information:
- All data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS
- Account data is stored in a secured database with row-level security (RLS) — each user can only access their own records
- Authentication tokens are short-lived and cryptographically signed
- No financial data ever leaves your device
